Unicorn

The Unicorn in the Bible

Scriptures:

Numbers 23:22, 24:8

Deuteronomy 33:17

Job 39:9-10

Psalm 22:21, 29:6, 92:10

Isaiah 34:7

In the scriptures listed above, the King James Bible translates the Hebrew RE'EM as Unicorn.

The more modern translations do not use the word unicorn. The New International Version, American Standard Version, New American Standard Bible, and New King James Bible translate the RE'EM as "wild ox" or "wild oxen". The Hebrew word is RE'EM from the root word R'M to rise. It is a large ox-like wild animal that can be as much as 6 feet high at the shoulders.

Here is what we learn about it from the Bible:

It is strong (numbers 23:22).

It has more than one horn (Deuteronomy 33:17).

It is wild and cannot be tamed (Job 39:9-10).
